Invitation to Submit Expression of Interest (EOI) for Licensing of "Vibro Integrity Sensing Device (VInSD) and VInSD Aerial Inspection Unit (VAIU)" Developed by CSIR-CRRI
Overview
CSIR-Central Road Research Institute invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from eligible and experienced Indian firms for the licensing and large-scale commercialization of the innovative "Vibro Integrity Sensing Device (VInSD) and VInSD Aerial Inspection Unit (VAIU)". This groundbreaking system provides a one-package solution for two types of conventional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) / Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems including (a) Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) Test and (b) Accelerometer. The technology is designed to revolutionize the condition assessment of concrete structures, particularly inaccessible components like bridges and tunnels.
About the “Vibro Integrity Sensing Device (VInSD) and VInSD Aerial Inspection Unit (VAIU)”
This system is a 100% Indigenous Make in India technology, first of its kind in the world for condition assessment of concrete structures. The VInSD and VAIU offer a rugged, drone-integrated solution providing real-time inspection capabilities for inaccessible structures like bridges on water bodies and tunnels. It delivers a one-package solution for two types of conventional NDT/SHM systems including Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) Test and Accelerometer. The system estimates concrete homogeneity through wave velocity, crack depth, and natural frequency measurements, with minimal manual effort required for data acquisition. Its unique sensor-based testing mechanism ensures safe, quick, and accurate inspection of challenging structural components.
Opportunities for Commercialization
The NDT drone market in India shows substantial potential. This 100% indigenous technology offers significant import substitution. Intellectual property includes VInSD's completed POC with 01 patent applied, and VAIU's 01 trademark in process with 01 patent submitted to IPU. Primary beneficiaries include NHAI, MoRTH, PWDs, State PWDs, and infrastructure agencies utilizing this technology for bridge condition assessment and structural health monitoring.
CSIR-CRRI seeks EOIs from registered Indian Firms / Industries / Government agencies with:
- Experience in research and development, testing, and deployment of similar NDT/SHM technologies and drone-based systems
- The industry / organization must possess expertise on the development as well as successful delivery orders for three customized drones meeting different applications and areas e.g. inspection of structures, painting of structures, mapping, surveillance, spraying water for irrigation etc.
- One of the drones provided by the firm must have the attachment, which can perform any mechanical operation involving robotics.
- Strong technical support and maintenance capabilities for complex sensor-based systems
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting for structural health monitoring
- Industry / Organization must possess in-house drone customization facilities
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
The ownership of the intellectual properties rights (IPR), if any, coming out of this work shall be with the CSIR-CRRI. In this regard, a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) need to be signed by the final selected firm and the CSIR-CRRI.
Submission Details
Interested parties must submit an EOI including the following:
- Company profile and experience in similar applications
