History of Knowledge Resource Centre
CSIR-CRRI library is an integral part of the institution since its inception in 1950. Its beginning was humble with a few hundred books which aimed at catering to the needs of 37 technical & administrative staff members. For nearly three & half decades a temporary building provided safe haven to the intellectually ambitious. Finally, the management decided to shift the library to the present building which was constructed for this purpose. On May 11, 1983 this new building was inaugurated by Prof. S. Nurul Hasan, Vice President, CSIR and was made available for use by all stakeholders. On December 20, 1996, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Director General, CSIR dedicated this Citadel of Knowledge to the loving memory of Late Prof. S. R. Mehra, the first Indian Director (1955-1968) of CSIR-CRRI. Later, in Year 2008, in accordance with CSIR guidelines, CSIR-CRRI Library was renamed as ‘Knowledge Resource Centre’ with a growing emphasis on use of information technology and standardizing all CSIR libraries. As of now, with a massive collection of around 80,000 books & journals, the library has become a major attraction for bibliophiles from all over the institution and beyond.
