Inauguration of Five-Day Training Course on "The Application of Geo-synthetics in Road Infrastructure Projects"
A five-day training program on "The Application of Geo-synthetics in Road Infrastructure Projects" was inaugurated at SRKR Engineering College (Autonomous), Bhimavaram, on March 18, 2025. The program is jointly organized by CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi, and the National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the General Guidelines for Skill Development and Training of Candidates in Technical Textiles, in association with SRKR Engineering College.
Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Director of CSIR-CRRI, inaugurated the training program with an inspiring address to 120 students at the college.
In his address, Prof. Manoranjan Parida emphasized the importance of geo-synthetics in enhancing the durability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of road infrastructure. He highlighted the critical role of such training programs in equipping students with industry-relevant skills and preparing them for real-world infrastructure challenges.
Dr. P. S. Prasad, Chief Scientist and Project Lead at CRRI, along with Dr. G. Bharat, Principal Scientist and Event Coordinator from CRRI, organized and oversee the five-day training program, in collaboration with the program coordinators from SRKR Engineering College: Prof. Vamsi Nagaraju, Dean of R&D, and Dr. G. Sri Bala, Head of the Civil Engineering Department.
The inaugural function was graced by Shri S. R. K. Nishant Varma, Secretary & Correspondent of SRKREC, as the Guest of Honor. The event was also attended by the Director and Principal of SRKREC.
As part of the inaugural lectures, Dr. K. Ravinder, Chief Scientist and Head of the ILT Division, provided an overview of the various training program activities and skill development initiatives aimed at advancing knowledge in the transport and road sectors within CSIR-CRRI. Dr. Kanwar Singh, Chief Scientist and Head of the GTE Division, highlighted the diverse activities in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. At the outset, Dr. P.S. Prasad, Chief Scientist and Project Lead explained the mandate and course structure of the training program, aligning it with the Ministry’s objectives to achieve excellence in the curriculum.
The five-day course will cover topics such as reinforced soil structures, pavement stabilization, drainage solutions, and the practical applications of geo-synthetics in road infrastructure projects. The program will feature technical sessions, hands-on training, and expert discussions led by leading scientists and industry professionals.
