Road Safety Awareness Campaign - For Road Safety Week-9th to 15th January 2017

The number of deaths and injuries in the road accidents is continuously on the rise in India.   More than half of the persons killed every year in India are economically active age group of 25 to 65 years. Developed countries have successfully reduced road traffic deaths by prioritizing safety. Road Safety Week was oberserved   to increase understanding of the dangers related to high speeding and other risk taking practices, thereby saving lives on the roads.

In view of this, Traffic Engineering & Safety Division and Transportation Planning Division of CSIR-Central Road Research Institutes (CSIR-CRRI) headed by Prof Satish Chandra, Director-CSIR-CRRI  along with TRAX S. Society had taken up the responsibility to create awareness for Road Safety by performing different activities on road. As a part of Road safety week, various activities were conducted by CSIR-CRRI team for Bicycle safety, two wheeler safety, bus safety and pedestrian safety awareness campaign from 9th January to 13th January 2017.The Week focused on following activities:

  • Pamphlets were distributed regarding Pedestrian safety among pedestrians and vehicle users on Delhi-Mathura Road on 9th January 2017.
  • Road Safety Awareness Campaign for Safe & Smart Two Wheeler Riding was carried out on NH-2 near CSIR-CRRI Premises on 10th January 2017. As a part of this activity team along with Trax S. Society has distributed pamphlets to the two wheeler riders
  • Road Safety Awareness Campaign for Safe Bicycle Riding Activities among School Children As a part of this activity team has visited Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Mithapur for road safety awareness campaign for safe bicycle riding among School Children. Designed banners and distributed pamphlets on site and among children too. Interactive session and quiz conducted for school children on road safety. More than 150 Retro Reflective tapes have been fixed on bicycles of school children and on site bicycles and cycle rickshaws for easy spotting by drivers of other vehicles at night to prevent crashes.  
  • Workshop on Road safety on 12th January 2017 was carried out with the target of creating awareness about road safety among school children. Workshop started with the opening remarks from of chief guest Mr. Kiran Kumar Kapila is the Chairman and Managing Director of Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt Ltd. (ICT). Interactive session was conducted by the experts e.g. Chris Wagner who is the Director Partnerships at Youth Service America, an NGO, in Washington DC.  And Dr.Gaurav Gupta who is National Consultant (Road Safety, Injury, Violence and Disability Prevention) WHO Country Office for India with school children of Jain Happy School participated.
  • Road Safety Awareness Campaign for Bus Drivers and Passengers adjoining road NH-2 Near CSIR-CRRI Premises on 13th January 2017 in which pamphlets will be distributed and placard will be placed near designated area to create awareness among bus drivers and passengers.
