Pavement Evaluation

• A technology for weighing heavy vehicles without requiring them to stop at weigh stations.
• It represents more accurately what a pavement is subjected to than a static weight.
• Designed to capture and record individual axle weights and gross vehicle weights of all trucks as they drive over a sensor.
• It measures related dynamic tyre forces of a moving vehicle at specified location with respect to time

This is a dynamic pendulum impact type tester used to measure the energy loss when a rubber slider edge is propelled over a test surface. The tester is suited for laboratory as well as field tests on flat surfaces and for polish value measurements on curved laboratory specimens from the accelerated wheel tests. (ASTM – E 303 – 1978).

• It is a Vehicle Mounted Bump Integrator System
• This Vehicle Mounted Bump Integrator consists of an integrating unit which is mounted in the dicky on the rear axle of a car/jeep
• Integrating unit, mounted on the dicky integrates the unevenness in cm or pulses
• For the measurement vehicle is run at a constant speed of 32 kmph
• Bumps in cm or pulses and corresponding road length in meters are recorded on a computer based data acquisition system

• An Indigenous device developed by CRRI
• It comprises of a standard pneumatic wheel mounted within a rectangular frame with single leaf spring on either side.
• Spring dashpots mounted on the leaf spring provide damping for the suspension
• Integrating unit, mounted on one side of the frame integrates the unevenness in cm.

• t is a precise electronic digital level and profiler
• It stands on two support legs
• Just by a simple twist of the wrist it can take readings along a survey line.
• It measures, displays and records the elevation difference between front and the rear leg.
• The readings that are taken are accurate upto 100th decimal place.
• It directly gives International Roughness Index in m/km.

• NCHRP Project 9-29 developed commercial equipment which recommended three simple performance tests:

1.  Dynamic Modulus – Absolute value of Complex Modulus
2.  Flow Number – Number of repeated load cycles (repeated compressive stress pulses)corresponding to the minimum accumulation rate of change of permanent axial strain
3. Flow Time – Constant load is applied to the sample and total deformation is observed.

• Sample size of 320 x  260 mm,  height 40 to 120 mm is compacted by electronically controlled mould and roller segment and also with controlled heating devices.
